Generally, only four easy steps are needed to ensure the decision for applying braces. First, is consultation. "The diagnosis is established and future treatment solutions are then discussed while using patient," explained Dr. Gerard. Next, is the process of creating a record for the patient. Girls prefer flowery and pastel colors, while boys adhere to almost anything, but many still such as the darker colors, the blacks, the blues, the browns."

Having braces is fun and easy, but keeping them clean, well which is a different story. People with braces must take a longer time cleaning their teeth, because official site of the wires and ties. They must carefully remove debris, floss, and appearance to find out if the bacteria and plaque have been removed. Tools, fondly known as the "Christmas tree," (interproxmial brush) help to further remove food.

"Back within the 1960's, before take 3 to 4 years before a patient's braces could possibly be removed. Now, the space has dramatically lessened to at least one and half to two years." With faster and equipment, it has made a more effective procedure and allowed the wait to lower by nearly double! "Orthodontics can be an exciting profession, because from the improvements in technology. The greater usage of computer, along with special alloy wires, allow one's teeth to advance quicker, while technology, such as "invisalign" allows users to straighten teeth with nearly undetectable aligners."

Dr. Gerard jocularly explained how a Invisalign worked, telling that initially, a doctor is going to take an impact of your respective teeth, which are then listed in Invisalign. Then, they interpret your doctor's instructions into precisely customized "braces", actually called aligners, for you.

Interested in how your teeth actually move with all the wires, he told that Biology would be a major component for making it happen. Two kinds of bone cells, called osteoblasts (break up bone) and osteoclasts (increase bone), come together to remodel the patient's teeth in reply to the force put upon it by braces.

Orthodontics is very worthwhile, though the work behind it had been hard, too. Dr. Gerard said, "After senior high school, it will require approximately ten to eleven years to get an orthodontist. I attended University of Connecticut for four years, then I went along to dental school for another four years, not only that I had three years of residency. In the meantime I was also capable of complete my Master's, which I am happy I did."

When asked why he chose orthodontics as his profession, he gladly told that while he loved and enjoyed the sciences, "the most rewarding part was working together with and helping my patients. The patients that I see want to be there, and they don't come because they are in pain. Not only that though I am in a position to first handedly begin to see the alterations in each patient. They smile more, are less self-conscious, and their self confidence rises. Being an orthodontist is really an enriching job."

In fact, Dr. Gerard described that orthodontics is not just a science. "It is both a form of art as well as a science, because along with medical and dental science, it also requires the art of making beautiful smiles." This artistic process is one of most of Dr. Gerard's unique talents, which his patients immensely appreciate.

Dr. Gerard loves utilizing his patients, but his job doesn't necessarily go smoothly. A patient's cooperation is vital to creating the braces work with him/her. "Sometimes its not all patient cooperates with oral cleanliness and his/her diet may break the braces. This may make the treatment being slower and fewer efficient." However, overall, Dr. Gerard "looks forward to work and loves every minute from it." So if you're as much as it, try braces so that you, too, can flaunt your teeth with pride.
